The Wonthaggi Power football Netball Club has been awarded a $250,000 grant for improvements to its oval as part of a broader $1.4 million funding initiative from the Country Football and Netball Program. The funding will enable enhancements such as new drainage systems, drought-resistant grass, and upgraded irrigation to create a superior home ground for the club. Other notable recipients include the Rochester Recreation Reserve, which will receive $99,000 for netball court resurfacing, and Frankston’s Ballam East Oval, also awarded $250,000 for surface redevelopment. Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence emphasized the importance of such funding in supporting regional communities through improved sporting facilities, a sentiment echoed by local representatives and sports officials. The program, developed in collaboration with AFL and Netball Victoria, has allocated over $40 million towards more than 580 projects since its inception in 2005. Applications for the next round of grants will close on July 7, 2025.
