Ground has officially broken on a highly anticipated inclusive multi-sport court at Hespeler Optimist Park, thanks in part to a $500,000 contribution from the Canadian Tire Jumpstart program. The court will accommodate various accessible sports, including basketball, wheelchair basketball, pickleball, volleyball, and tennis, allowing participants of all ages and abilities to engage in physical activities. The project, approved by city council in 2022 based on community feedback, features adjustable equipment and a high-contrast acrylic surface, along with shade canopies, LED lighting, and accessible seating. With a total preliminary cost of $1.1 million, construction is set to be completed later this summer.
