New Study Provides Insights on Cucumber Lighting

Sollum Technologies, in collaboration with Delphy Improvement Centre, has conducted a case study on the effects of dynamic LED lighting on mini-cucumber growth. The research focused on how far-red modulation (FR) and blue supplemental morning lighting (B-SML) can optimize yield, plant balance, and energy efficiency. The trial, featuring Uptrace and Hi Lumiere cucumber varieties, demonstrated that FR is crucial during darker months to prevent leaf curling and fruit abortion. Results showed that Hi Lumiere outperformed Uptrace in yield and light use efficiency. Additionally, the introduction of B-SML improved physiological readiness and supported plant performance. The findings underscore the importance of cultivar-specific lighting strategies, reinforcing Sollum’s commitment to enhancing greenhouse cultivation through flexible and targeted lighting solutions.
