On May 8, hundreds gathered at Coatham Boating Lake on the Redcar seafront to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a poignant Ceremony of Lights, part of a day filled with events organized by the Royal British Legion. The celebrations began with flag-raising ceremonies and a parade at Redcar Beacon, featuring readings, poetry, and singing. Mayor Cllr Neil Bendelow expressed gratitude to organizers and emphasized the importance of honoring the sacrifices made for peace, while encouraging reflection and hope for the future.
