During the Manheim Township school board meeting on May 15, members unanimously approved four overnight field trips for high school athletic teams, following new procedures aimed at enhancing student safety. These changes were prompted by an investigation into an alleged sexual assault during a boys lacrosse trip in April 2024, which is currently under scrutiny by Lancaster County’s District Attorney. The newly established protocols include detailed itineraries, restrictions on downtime, and stringent standards for chaperones, requiring a ratio of one adult for every ten students. The board also passed a budget that raises property taxes by 2.75% and approved spending for new sports lighting at Journey Field, while discussions remain ongoing regarding student luggage searches and privacy concerns. The next board meeting is scheduled for June 16.
