Essex County has successfully completed extensive upgrades to Independence Park and Branch Brook Park in Newark, enhancing recreational opportunities for the community. At Independence Park, over $4.8 million was invested in projects that revitalized soccer and baseball/softball fields with synthetic grass, improved drainage, and added sports lighting and landscaping. County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo highlighted the park’s importance as a vital space for residents in Newark’s Ironbound neighborhood. Meanwhile, Branch Brook Park received modernized pathways, seating areas, and safety enhancements, especially at the newly dedicated Patricia Chambers Grove, honoring a former park advocate. These renovations were funded through state grants and the Essex County capital budget, demonstrating a commitment to revitalizing public spaces.
