Choose Certified LED Lighting for Safe Disposal of Broken Mercury Fluorescent Bulbs

As schools prepare for the upcoming Brigada Eskwela activities in Quezon City, the EcoWaste Coalition is urging participants to opt for energy-efficient LED lights instead of traditional mercury-containing fluorescent lamps. EcoWaste’s National Coordinator, Aileen Lucero, emphasized the benefits of certified LED products, which are not only more durable but also safer by eliminating mercury exposure risks. The group also highlighted the importance of safely managing and disposing of broken fluorescent lamps to prevent hazardous mercury release, encouraging schools to contact local environmental offices for guidance. In accordance with Quezon City’s regulations, residents are reminded to handle mercury-containing waste properly to protect public health and the environment.
