The town of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, in collaboration with Duke Energy Carolinas, has launched a one-year program to evaluate the use of LED outdoor street lights. As part of this initiative, ten existing high-pressure sodium lamps along Franklin Street will be replaced with LED lamps, allowing the company to gather data on operating costs, light intensity, and energy consumption. This program aims to assess the long-term feasibility of implementing LED technology throughout the town’s lighting system, which is anticipated to significantly reduce energy consumption and maintenance costs, while enhancing public safety with improved lighting quality.
