Sumitomo Chemical has joined Holst Centre’s research initiative focused on Printed Organic Lighting and Signage to enhance the development of high-efficiency OLEDs through multi-layer solution processes. OLEDs, known for their ability to significantly reduce lighting energy use by 50-90%, are fabricated by layering materials on glass or flexible plastic substrates. Transitioning from traditional vacuum-based methods to atmospheric-pressure techniques could lower production costs by eliminating the need for expensive vacuum equipment. Sumitomo Chemical’s involvement will provide access to advanced OLED materials and allow the company to utilize the program’s expertise to optimize material production for cost-efficiency and flexible applications.
