A new study from Flinders University and Monash University suggests that blue-enriched lighting commonly found in casinos may encourage gamblers to take riskier bets. Researchers discovered that this type of lighting reduces sensitivity to financial losses compared to gains, potentially altering decision-making processes related to gambling. Conducted with 15 volunteers, the study revealed that participants under blue light were significantly less loss-averse, making them more likely to bet recklessly. The findings raise ethical concerns about casino lighting’s role in promoting gambling addiction, suggesting that adjusting the blue levels in casino settings could mitigate harmful gambling behaviors. The study highlights a need for further research into how environmental factors influence gambling choices.
