2025 Dark Skies Photo Contest: Partnership Among Truckee, Nevada City, and Local Cultural District
The Town of Truckee, in partnership with Nevada City and local arts organizations, is excited to announce the return of the “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark” photo contest, running from June 23 to July 27, 2025. This initiative encourages residents to capture the beauty of the night sky while raising awareness about light pollution. Participants can enter their photos in various categories, including professional, amateur, and youth, with prizes such as a $500 Sustainable Truckee Gift Card and an outdoor photography workshop. The contest aims to foster community engagement and promote sustainable practices to protect night skies, culminating in a public gallery showcasing finalist images later this summer. Mayors from both towns emphasize the importance of addressing light pollution for ecological health and community connection under the stars.
