Oswestry Town Council is making significant strides toward its carbon-neutral goal by converting all its street lights to energy-efficient LED technology, investing £54,000 in the project. Since declaring a Climate Emergency in 2018 and committing to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030, the council has already upgraded 256 of its 453 street lights to LEDs, with plans to complete the remaining 197 by the end of summer. This initiative is expected to cut energy consumption and carbon emissions by approximately 60%, reduce light pollution, and lower maintenance costs due to LEDs’ longer lifespan. Mayor Rosie Radford highlighted the project’s importance, noting it will contribute significantly to the council’s sustainability efforts. The work will be undertaken by local company Highline Electrical Ltd.
