University Vice-Chancellor Announces New Research Facility to Foster Academic Advancement

Bangalore University (BU) has addressed concerns raised by environmentalists regarding its infrastructure development under the PM-USHA scheme, asserting that all construction initiatives are environmentally compliant and essential for expanding space and enhancing research facilities. The University has received ₹100 crore in grants to build a new Academic Building and Research Block, with a focus on modernizing education in science and technology while promoting research in sustainable development and artificial intelligence. BU clarified that the construction does not encroach on ecologically sensitive areas, citing minimal tree impact and an ongoing commitment to reforestation. An additional ₹8 crore has been allocated for environmental sustainability measures, including rainwater harvesting and green infrastructure improvements. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Jayakara Shetty emphasized that these developments are vital for meeting the institution’s growing academic demands while maintaining ecological responsibility.
