Oswestry Town Council is set to replace the remaining non-LED street lights with energy-efficient LEDs as part of its commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2030. Since declaring a climate emergency in 2018, the council has successfully converted 256 of its 453 street lights to LEDs. With an investment of £54,000 this year, it will upgrade the last 197 lights, which are expected to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions by approximately 60%. Mayor Rosie Radford emphasized the benefits of LED technology in saving energy and costs, expressing confidence in this final phase of their street lighting project. The upgrades, to be completed by the end of summer, will be carried out by local company Highline Electrical Ltd, allowing for quick responses to any project issues. For more information, residents are encouraged to visit the council’s website or contact them directly.
