Breckenridge is set to enforce new regulations aimed at reducing light pollution, aligning with its efforts to achieve DarkSky International certification. Beginning July 1, homeowners must comply with guidelines restricting exterior lighting, including maximum wattages and color hues. All outdoor fixtures must be fully shielded and directed downward. A grace period until January 2, 2026, will allow residents to make adjustments, although violations will incur fines starting at $250. The initiative seeks to enhance both environmental and human health by managing light usage while preserving the night sky. The town is actively educating residents through various outreach efforts, including recycling programs for non-compliant fixtures.
