The city of Groveland, Florida, is set to vote on a plan to replace 783 street light fixtures from Duke Energy that do not align with its dark sky standards. This initiative is part of Groveland’s commitment to maintaining its status as a certified International Dark Sky Community, a distinction it achieved in 2023 for efforts to minimize light pollution and preserve the natural night sky. The proposed upgrade not only conserves energy but is also expected to save the city approximately $791 monthly in leasing costs. Local business owner Daniel Corsi expressed his support for the plan, emphasizing its ecological benefits. The council’s decision will be discussed during a meeting on Monday at 7 p.m.
