Eaton, a diversified industrial manufacturer, has secured a $2.4 million research grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) aimed at advancing energy-efficient lighting technologies. This research, to be completed by 2015, seeks to triple the manufacturing speed of LED fixtures, cut LED light engine costs by 80%, and reduce assembly expenses by approximately 50%. Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz emphasized that the initiative will lower consumer costs and create American jobs while highlighting the significant efficiency and longevity benefits associated with LED lighting. The project is part of a larger $10 million DOE initiative and will be conducted at Eaton’s Research and Technology Center in Wisconsin and Cooper Lighting R&D Center in Georgia, focusing on innovation to enhance affordability and quality in the LED sector.
