The Staffordshire County Council has approved a plan to replace over 15,000 streetlights with energy-efficient LED lights, projected to save the county £1.2 million annually in energy costs. To be implemented over two years by E.ON, which manages the county’s highway lighting, this initiative builds on the success of a previous upgrade that enhanced 47,955 lights and cut energy expenses by £2.2 million per year. Peter Mason, Cabinet Member for Strategic Highways, emphasized the benefits of the new lights, including increased safety and reduced outages. Funding will come from the council’s Private Finance Initiative reserve, supporting both financial responsibility and environmental goals. E.ON’s Luke Ellis highlighted the project’s potential for delivering sustainable energy solutions for the community.
