The small town of Bluff, Utah, has earned the prestigious international dark sky designation from DarkSky International, a significant achievement highlighting the community’s commitment to reducing light pollution and preserving the natural night sky. Mayor Ann Leppanen expressed pride in this accomplishment, noting it reflects years of dedication by residents following the town’s incorporation in 2018. Bluff, now one of 57 certified dark sky communities globally, partnered with the Bears Ears Partnership to deliver educational programs and conduct sky quality monitoring. This designation not only promotes environmental conservation but also serves as a catalyst for local tourism. To celebrate, Bluff will host a Dark Sky Festival on November 14-15.
