General Motors Upgrades to Over 50,000 LED Fixtures, Achieving $2 Million in Energy Savings

Since 2017, General Motors (GM) has partnered with Current by GE to upgrade its facilities across the U.S. by replacing traditional lighting with over 50,000 LED fixtures, integrating sensors and controls for enhanced sustainability and operational efficiency. GM’s Lighting Strategy Committee, focusing on cost-effective, reliable LED solutions, has already saved over $2 million annually by transitioning from fluorescent and HID lighting. With successful installations in over 20 facilities and completion of the project expected by 2020, GM aims to further reduce its energy consumption, having previously saved $73 million and avoided 388,000 metric tons of carbon emissions in 2016 alone.
