Venice’s Electric Water Taxis Criticized as a Threat to Heritage and Traditions

In a transformative move for sustainable transport, Venice has unveiled the Lucietta, its first fully electric water taxi, developed through a collaboration between Nauta Design, Cantiere Serenella, and Repower. This innovative vessel boasts a 200-kW electric propulsion system and a 180-kWh battery, enabling it to operate for an entire day without recharging while accommodating up to 14 passengers. Combining traditional Venetian design elements with modern technology, the Lucietta features LED lighting, USB ports, and a carbon fiber hull for luxury and eco-friendliness. As it makes its debut at various expos, including the Venice International Film Festival, the Lucietta stands as a beacon of hope for sustainable marine transport, encouraging other cities to consider electric alternatives as a solution to climate challenges.
