LEDs Offer Alternative to UV-C Mercury Tubes from Osram
Osram is set to revolutionize UV-C sterilization technology with its new high-efficiency LED, which promises to replace traditional mercury discharge lamps. Recent advancements have boosted its efficiency significantly, allowing for improved UV-C extraction. The development, currently in prototype stages, is expected to reach commercial availability by late 2026. Osram is bolstering its innovations with a robust portfolio of over 200 patents, and the LED’s efficiency has been validated by Germany’s national metrology institute, PTB.
