Installation of over 24,000 new LED lights has begun in Ambala City, promising improved public safety and lighting for residents long affected by inadequate illumination. Initially launched in 2023, the project faced delays due to administrative hurdles and tender issues. A total of 27,000 lights were purchased, with around 3,000 already installed. The current phase will see 18,000 lights placed at existing streetlight points and 6,000 in new locations, including villages. The project, costing approximately Rs 35 crore, will also replace high mast lights with energy-efficient LEDs and install 95 new high mast lights in community areas. Mayor Shailja Sachdeva emphasized the urgency of completing the installations before Diwali to ensure adequate lighting and safety for all residents.
