Support for Black-Led Business Development in Detroit from Local Foundation

The Gilbert Family Foundation has announced two significant grants totaling $4.1 million aimed at fostering economic development within Detroit’s African American community. A $2.1 million grant to Black Leaders Detroit will enhance its no-interest lending programs, including a real estate fund specifically for developers of African descent. Meanwhile, a $2 million grant to the Michigan Black business Alliance will support initiatives to expand Black-owned businesses by improving access to financing, offering one-on-one coaching, and providing technical assistance. Darnell Adams, vice president of Detroit community initiatives at the foundation, emphasized that these investments are vital for strengthening Detroit’s small business ecosystem and shaping the city’s future.
