In a contentious decision, the Falls Township Board of Supervisors has approved a $600,000 lighting project for a new practice field at Pennsbury High School, despite significant opposition from nearby residents concerned about the impact of 70-foot stadium lights on their neighborhood. Opponents argue that the proposed lighting will cause excessive glare and liken the area to a second stadium due to existing bleachers and scoreboards. District officials, citing the need for better facilities during upcoming construction, assert that the lights will have minimal spillover thanks to “Total Light Control” technology. While the practice field will primarily serve district teams, local resident Jennifer Metzger has raised concerns about inadequate notification of the project and its potential disruption to the community. The lights are scheduled to operate under strict guidelines, with automatic shutoff by 10 p.m. except during football games.
