Affordable Housing in West Kootenay to Benefit from $2.7 Million in Energy Improvements

Non-profit affordable housing developments in the West Kootenay are set to benefit from over $2.7 million in funding for clean energy upgrades, as announced by the Columbia Basin Trust on July 23. This funding is part of a broader allocation of $5.8 million aimed at enhancing 1,097 housing units throughout the Kootenays, including several towns such as Castlegar, Nelson, and Trail. The support will enable various projects, such as heating and cooling upgrades, solar installations, and LED lighting enhancements, aimed at improving resident comfort, reducing operating costs, and increasing climate resilience. Ulli Mueller of the Trust emphasized the importance of non-profit housing providers in maintaining affordable and sustainable living solutions for local residents.
