The London Legacy Development Corporation has approved a comprehensive masterplan to transform Bow Goods Yard, a 30-acre brownfield site in East London, into a rail freight campus and last-mile logistics hub. This pivotal development marks the final release of land from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic legacy, and it represents Network Rail Property’s first independent planning submission. The plan aims to create up to 3 million square feet of industrial space, facilitating 90,000 HGV movements a year and significantly reducing road congestion while promoting a green freight future. It also includes provision for 350,000 square feet of leisure facilities, enhancing the area’s community offerings. This initiative is expected to generate around 5,000 jobs and improve local accessibility through new public spaces and greener infrastructure, all while supporting London’s construction sector and contributing to the UK economy’s growth in sustainable freight. Extensive community engagement has played a key role in shaping the project, ensuring local needs are met as the site evolves.
