Approval Pending for LED Streetlight Initiative

The Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) is still waiting for approval on its LED streetlight project, which has faced a four-month delay despite completing all necessary procedures and selecting a contractor for the Rs 93-crore initiative. This project aims to convert 75,000 existing streetlights to energy-efficient LEDs and was initially part of the Hubballi-Dharwad Smart City Limited’s plan to replace 58,000 lights. After multiple failed attempts to tender, HDMC took over the project, but progress remains stalled as the proposal awaits final clearance from the urban development department. Local officials have stressed the importance of timely implementation for public safety and urban improvement, with installation expected to be completed within eight months once approved. The deputy mayor has urged the government to expedite the approval process.
