Whittlesea has marked a significant advancement in grassroots soccer with the inauguration of a new FIFA-accredited synthetic pitch at Partridge Recreation Reserve in Lalor, funded entirely by the local council at a cost of $2.6 million. The state-of-the-art facility replaces a natural grass pitch and features enhanced drainage, fencing, and LED sports lighting, leading to an increase in weekly usage from 20 to over 40 hours and fewer weather-related cancellations. Notably, the project emphasizes sustainability by incorporating repurposed olive pith and diverting approximately 145 tonnes of waste from landfills. Mayor Martin Taylor highlighted the long-term benefits for community health and sports development.
