Cree and Musco Lighting are collaborating to illuminate the Bay Bridge in San Francisco with a spectacular display of 1,600 custom LED fixtures comprising approximately 250,000 individual lights. This artwork, known as “The Bay Lights,” has become a celebrated public installation, drawing in 50 million viewers in the Bay Area and creating an estimated economic impact of $97 million. However, the current installation is set to go dark in March 2015. In response to strong community support, Illuminate the Arts has launched a $12 million fundraising campaign to keep the lights shining until 2026. As of now, the campaign has raised nearly $186,000, aiming to secure the bridge’s place as a cultural landmark.
