The Ayrshire Council in Scotland has approved a significant £4.25 million (approximately US $7.20 million) budget for a streetlight retrofit plan aimed at replacing 13,500 streetlights in North Ayrshire with energy-efficient LED alternatives over the next two years. The initiative comes amid rising costs associated with the current streetlighting system, which expenses the council about £870,000 annually and could incur an additional £70,000 due to mandatory carbon emission caps. The LED installation is projected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 2,475 tonnes, minimize light pollution, and recoup its costs within six years.
