Bluff, a small town in southeastern Utah, has earned the prestigious international dark sky designation from DarkSky International, recognizing its commitment to reducing light pollution and preserving natural night environments. This achievement followed a rigorous, multi-year process that included adopting a night-sky-friendly lighting ordinance and hosting community stargazing events. Mayor Ann Leppanen expressed pride in the designation, emphasizing its significance to the community’s identity. Bluff is now among 57 certified dark sky communities globally, joining several others in Utah. The designation is seen as a boost for local tourism and a vital step in nurturing future generations’ connection to nature, culminating in a Dark Sky Festival scheduled for November 14-15.
