Toronto is gearing up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with significant renovations underway at BMO Field, which will host six matches during the tournament. The upgrades, including expanded capacity to 45,000, new LED scoreboards, improved lighting and audio systems, and enhanced fan amenities, aim to create a lasting legacy for both Toronto FC and future events at the stadium. Officials, including Mayor Olivia Chow and MP Adam van Koeverden, emphasized the World Cup’s potential for economic and cultural benefits, projecting an estimated economic output of $940 million for the Greater Toronto Area. With construction set to conclude just before the tournament begins, the enhancements position Toronto to showcase its diversity and spirit on a global stage, encouraging visitors to explore the city and its events beyond the matches. The World Cup will take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026, with Toronto hosting its first match on June 12.
