A recent study published at the SLEEP 2016 conference highlights the cognitive benefits of blue light exposure, suggesting that even brief periods can enhance working memory performance and accelerate response times in individuals. Conducted by Anna Alkozei, PhD, and her team at the University of Arizona, the research involved 35 healthy adults who were randomly assigned to receive either 30 minutes of blue light or amber light. The findings revealed that participants exposed to blue light exhibited greater activation in critical brain regions associated with cognitive performance and achieved significantly faster and more accurate responses in subsequent tasks. This builds on previous research linking blue light exposure to increased alertness and improved reaction times, likening its effects to those experienced under sunlight.
