Call for Immediate Action to Prohibit LED Headlights Amid Concerns for Older Drivers’ Safety

In response to concerns about the dangers posed by LED headlights, thousands of UK drivers are urging the government to consider a ban, emphasizing the harmful glare these lights can cause. A petition initiated by Gemma Mooney has garnered over 2,300 signatures and aims to highlight the risks associated with LED headlights, which many drivers find “dangerously bright.” An RAC survey indicates that a significant portion of drivers report being dazzled by headlights, with some opting to avoid night driving altogether, particularly among older motorists. While the government has commissioned research to examine the issue and understand the contributing factors behind headlight glare, current regulations permit the use of LED headlights that are factory-fitted. Campaigners, including Baroness Dianne Hayter, are advocating for safety measures to address the growing concerns surrounding headlight brightness.
