International Dark Sky Week (IDSW) will take place from April 21 to 28, 2025, highlighting the issue of light pollution and encouraging solutions while celebrating the beauty of natural night skies. Originating in 2003 by high school student Jennifer Barlow, IDSW is now led by DarkSky International. The island of Ireland features three significant dark sky areas—Kerry International Dark Sky Reserve, Mayo Dark Sky Park, and OM Dark Sky Park—perfect for stargazing during this week. Each location offers distinct features and events to engage visitors, promoting awareness of light pollution’s effects on health, the environment, and our heritage of night skies. Participants are encouraged to share their experiences on social media using #IDSW.
