Moorpark College President Julius Sokenu recently updated city council members in Moorpark and Simi Valley on the college’s growth and initiatives during meetings held on March 5 and 10. The college has experienced a notable 4% increase in enrollment for Spring 2025 compared to the previous year, reaching about 14,650 students, a significant rebound following a pandemic-related drop of 11,000 students. Sokenu highlighted the introduction of new academic programs, including a paramedic studies program and a biomanufacturing bachelor’s degree, while unveiling plans for a new 4,000-seat amphitheater. The college has also made several improvements to campus facilities, including the opening of a new outdoor volleyballstadium, and is enhancing student support services, particularly addressing issues related to food insecurity and homelessness among its student population. In recognition of its excellence, Moorpark College has been nominated for the Aspen Prize, which commends top community colleges in the U.S.
