In a recent update, a council has shifted its terminology from “dark skies” to “part night lighting” for its street lighting project. The initiative will involve two rounds of consultation before any community lights are turned off or dimmed: the first with councillors and various groups, followed by a formal public consultation. Ultimately, the cabinet member will make the final decision, similar to the process for the county’s 20mph speed zones. The council’s place overview and scrutiny committee is set to discuss the strategy at a meeting next Wednesday, with a revised street lighting policy expected to be finalized by senior councillors in July.
