The Expo Cultural Park Greenhouse, newly completed by Delugan Meissl Associated Architects (DMAA) in Shanghai, signifies a pivotal shift toward sustainable urban design. Located in the Pudong district, this innovative project repurposes a former industrial site into a zero-energy greenhouse, seamlessly blending nature with urban life. The structure incorporates a steel framework from an old industrial hall, featuring three distinct pavilions that showcase various biomes, including arid and tropical environments. By utilizing energy-efficient materials and designs, such as single glazing and a naturally ventilated roof, the greenhouse addresses Shanghai’s environmental challenges while promoting ecological awareness. This transformation highlights the city’s commitment to sustainability amidst rapid urban development.
