Cree Inc. announced that the University of California, Davis has joined the LED University program, coinciding with the launch of bi-level LED lighting at its South Entry parking Structure. This initiative incorporates advanced activity-sensing technology from the California Lighting Technology Center (CLTC), enhancing nighttime visibility while reducing energy consumption by up to 80% compared to traditional metal-halide fixtures. The installation of 50 BetaLED fixtures is expected to cut energy usage by an average of 50%, with potential maintenance-free operation lasting 20 to 25 years. UC Davis aims to improve safety and reduce both maintenance costs and light trespass through this new technology, joining other institutions in promoting sustainable lighting solutions.
