Jackson Hole Airport (JAC) in Wyoming has made history by becoming the first airport to be certified as an International Dark Sky Place, enhancing opportunities for stargazing in the area. This designation, awarded earlier this month, came after the airport implemented a comprehensive lighting management plan that included upgrading over 250 exterior fixtures to minimize light pollution. These efforts not only improve the night sky visibility for travelers but also benefit local wildlife that depend on dark environments for survival. The certification aligns with recent recognition of Teton County as the first International Dark Sky Community, underscoring a collective commitment to protecting the night sky for future generations.
