Dark Sky Salida, a new local nonprofit focused on preserving nighttime environments, is educating the community about the importance of dark skies through two events this month at the Valley View Nature Learning Center. A family-friendly “Star Party” on October 17 will feature the Mobile Earth + Space Observatory (MESO), offering hands-on astronomy activities. Followed by a free talk for adults on October 22, the events aim to raise awareness about the negative impacts of light pollution on wildlife, human health, and cultural heritage. With the support of the International Dark-Sky Association, Dark Sky Salida strives to foster a “lights-out culture” that promotes responsible lighting practices to protect the night sky for future generations.
