The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has proposed a comprehensive plan to replace around 400,000 LED lights across central, south, west, and Najafgarh zones, with an estimated cost of Rs 1,144.3 crore. This initiative, which includes 10 years of operation and maintenance, is set to be presented for administrative approval in an upcoming House meeting. However, final approval from the standing committee is essential for determining project rates and the selected agency. The urgency is heightened as the contract with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) for existing LED maintenance will expire in December. The MCD aims to complete the replacement within three years to mitigate outages and enhance energy efficiency. The plan allows for an average annual expenditure of Rs 125 crore over the decade, with the option for an additional two-year extension if needed.
