Dorset Council is set to modernize its street lighting by replacing 18,500 current fixtures with energy-efficient LED lights, aiming to lower energy consumption and reduce light pollution. The plans, which may be approved by the Cabinet on September 9, promise no upfront costs for the council, as funding will come from its lighting service provider, Enerveo. Council leader Nick Ireland emphasized the initiative as a “win-win” for environmental improvement and fiscal savings. The new lights will feature warm colors that can be dimmed, allowing for tailored lighting levels in quieter areas. The council anticipates saving £100,000 annually from its energy share, with work expected to commence immediately if approved.
