Downtown Corpus Christi is set to shine brighter with the installation of new color-changing lights along Chaparral Street, part of a safety initiative aimed at enhancing pedestrian safety and creating a vibrant atmosphere. The Corpus Christi Downtown Management District has upgraded lighting on 64 oak trees and 43 palm trees between Taylor and Lomax streets, with the new installation slated for reveal during the First Friday ArtWalk on May 2, 2025. This initiative, known as ¡Iluminando!, was introduced by Mayor Paulette Guajardo, supported by the Corpus Christi Medical Center and funded by the Downtown Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone #3. The project replaces older lights that had outlived their three-year lifespan, contributing to an improved downtown experience for visitors.
