Dung Quat Oil Refinery Enhances Production Efficiency and Reduces Energy Consumption

Dung Quat Oil Refinery has recently implemented several innovative energy-saving solutions aimed at enhancing production efficiency and reducing overall energy consumption. Among these initiatives, the refinery installed a frequency converter for the PM-5207A engine, saving over half a million kWh annually, and optimized the operation of its seawater cooling system, which led to significant savings of approximately 309 million USD per year. The refinery has also improved its energy efficiency through the installation of heat exchange equipment designed to recover waste heat, which is projected to further reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The facility’s energy consumption intensity index has notably decreased from 118% in 2015 to around 100% after recent maintenance. Overall, these efforts reflect Dung Quat’s commitment to sustainable practices and energy conservation, contributing to savings of over 27,886 MWh in 2023 and ambitious targets for continued improvement in 2024.
