Staffordshire County Council has approved a £4.9 million energy-saving upgrade to replace over 15,000 older orange streetlights with modern LED lights, expected to save £1.2 million annually. This initiative, part of the council’s Invest to Save programme, will enhance public safety and reduce energy costs. LED lights, which use 60% less energy and have a lifespan of 20 to 25 years compared to just four years for traditional lights, aim to improve lighting quality while supporting environmental goals. With this phase following previous successful upgrades that generated £2.2 million in yearly savings, the project will be funded through the council’s Private Finance Initiative reserve and executed by E.ON’s experienced street lighting team.
