Local organizations and businesses in Newmarket, including the Newmarket Food Pantry and AMG Metals, are transitioning to energy-efficient LED lighting with the assistance of provincial government incentive programs. This shift aims to reduce energy costs and lower greenhouse gas emissions. Notable upgrades include AMG Metals replacing nearly 300 fixtures, resulting in safer lighting and significant energy savings. The Newmarket Food Pantry’s recent retrofit of 75 fixtures is projected to save $2,800 annually while cutting carbon emissions by 2.6 tonnes. Programs like the Save on Energy Retrofit and Instant Discounts have made such sustainable changes financially viable for both large companies like Magna International and local nonprofits, highlighting the collective effort needed for energy efficiency in the community.
