The K Group has unveiled an ambitious energy strategy aimed at improving energy efficiency by 10% from 2024 to 2030, with a focus on its grocery stores, which have the highest energy consumption due to refrigeration needs. Key initiatives include upgrading refrigeration units and lighting, particularly through the installation of energy-efficient LED lighting, which has already saved around 28 GWh across K-Citymarket stores. A new heat recycling system will utilize waste heat from refrigeration and exhaust air to provide approximately 50% of the heating and cooling energy demand in renovated stores. In 2024, the Group has already implemented measures totaling about 20.9 GWh, including the heat recycling system at 20 locations, expected to reduce district heat consumption by roughly 10 GWh. To achieve its goals, the K Group plans to implement 95 GWh of energy efficiency measures while building on the successes of nearly 4,000 measures executed in the previous strategy period, resulting in savings of approximately 115 GWh.
