Enhancing Spring Onion Growth Using LED Lighting

A recent study by the Taiwan Agricultural Research Institute’s Fengshan Tropical Horticultural Experiment Branch revealed that a green LED technique has successfully reduced beet armyworm infestations by 40% and enhanced spring onion production by up to 20%. This innovative approach comes in response to rising infestations in Yilan County, where the pests have thrived due to climate anomalies limiting summer rainfall. Director Lee Wen-li highlighted the financial impact of the pests, as they compromise the commercial value of spring onions, leading to a significant decline in planting areas—from 400 hectares to just 150 hectares in certain regions.
